A Photo A Day / 73

A week on from an incident which lasted 82 seconds, thousands of people gathered to link hands on Westminster Bridge in a show of solidarity. As rain began to fall, I walked past New Scotland Yard at 14:40 as a minute’s silence was being observed outside by police officers; exactly one week from the moment this all began. Just metres away on Westminster Bridge, closed to traffic for a few hours, members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association wearing bright blue T-shirts with “I am a Muslim, ask me anything” stood out amongst the sea of people and these Muslim schoolgirls also passed by.

Westminster Bridge, London

Fact: In separate incidents and unrelated to the vigil, two people jumped off Westminster Bridge hours earlier. RNLI  lifeboats taking part in the search for a young man pulled a woman from the water after the crew spotted her as they were returning to their base at Tower Bridge. The man was not found and the search stood down.
