Stoke Newington, London

Fact: Stoke Newington or ‘new town in the wood’, has been lightly settled for hundreds of years, close to larger neighbouring Saxon settlements near the River Lea. In the 19th century it was discovered that Stoke Newington Common and Abney Park Cemetery had been part of a Neolithic working area for axe-making, some examples of which can be seen in the Museum of London. Stoke Newington is nicknamed “Stokey” by many residents.

Came down to catch the last rays of sun before sunset and do some sort of stretching and exercise with minimal running…ended up back on the basketball court with Anita and Tom just before dark.

Friends I made working at an event in Crans-Montana circa March ’13 were back in town for a show in Camden, they’re a 3 piece band ‘Reigning Days’ and just signed a record deal with Marshall Records. It was also my friend (pictured) Dan’s first official night living in London having made the big move from Devon to be closer to the music industry community here.

I just want to cuddle a goat…going through a Clissold Park phase.

17:07 Friday April 14, 2017

Clissold Park, Stoke Newington, London

Fact: Clissold Park was one of the first municipal parks in London in which bird and animal life was specifically provided. An animal enclosure was established before 1900 and contained donkeys, a wallaby and an aviary housing British birds as well as a herd of deer.
The small collection of animals now kept at Clissold Park consists of an aviary containing exotic birds, enclosures containing chickens, goats and a small herd of fallow deer. The animals have historically been for educational purposes, particularly for children and young people; this is purely visual and no contact between members of the public and animals takes place.

This place is New York and Middle Eastern influenced and has a line out the door every weekend + they don’t take bookings for brunch (which is their thing) so Phoebe and I took advantage of having the morning off to see what this fanfare was ’bout.

I just signed up to the Virgin Sport 2017 5.5k Chase Your Mate at the end of the month, so did a recce of the local running track and put in some (very low intensity) warm up laps. I don’t have a mate to chase, by the way.

Clissold Park, Stoke Newington, London

Fact: A study published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research found that stretching before going for a run made a runner’s body less efficient so that they did not perform as well and were unable to run as far.
Instead of stretching, try warming up with a walk and running-specific moves to mobilise your joints before your run. You should then make sure to include stretches as part of your post-run routine.
